MARATHANG BANDS! A PLUG FOR SOMEONE WHO DESERVES IT.
Here’s someone who has taken the initiative and created something cool with their own two hands (for your head). That certainly deserves a big ole “thumbs up.” Check out Angie’s ebay listing and Facebook page.
Strap one to your head… and Run on!
I have always liked to make things, or experiment with the craft world. Keeps my hands busy and me from eating all the food. On a search for a simple head band I came across the idea to make one. Especially since I wasn’t too happy with the price of a head band. (even though there are some fun ones out there)
So this post is a shameless plug for my hand made, elastic, ribbon head bands, woohoo!!! Updated ebay listing Follow me on facebook – MarathAng Bands
Marathang Bands
These are made from a grosgrain or fabric ribbon which is sewn to velvet ribbon backing, then elastic in center back. Sewn by machine. (they are either glued or ironed with hem tape, before sewn) Velvet backing keeps them in place (I have ran 12 miles with no slipping) I usually have no problem washing them by hand. These are…

PENCIL ME IN FOR THE FALL- PART 1: LEXUS LACEUP SERIES
Hey Trippers!
While the calendar says Summer is officially still a few weeks away, for all intents and purposes it’s already the Sum-sum-summertime.
For many of us pavement pounders, June-August is a bit of a downtime between the Spring and Fall racing seasons. Higher temperatures makes training a little tougher (and having to get out there earlier to beat the heat). Vacations are in high swing, along with plenty of other outdoor activities lobbying for our limited free time.
As a result, race availability during the summer months isn’t quite as packed as it is during the other seasons.
My summer race schedule is going to be quite light this year as I regroup, shuffle up my training regimen and think ahead to the Fall race season. If you’re pondering what races to run in the latter half of 2015, I’ve got a pair of race series that I’m involved with (aka an ambassador) for you to consider.
Ooh, a two-parter post (how very Kill Bill/Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows of me). Read the rest of this entry
LOGO LOCO…
The Nike swoosh.
Target’s red bullseye.
The Apple apple (complete with a bite taken out of it).
All of those are good examples of recognizable company logos.
And what’s the point of having a logo? According to Ask.com, “The primary purpose of a logo is to give a visual identity to a company or brand.”
Ask.com has a logo too, by the way, it’s a red oval with the word “Ask” inside.
You see a logo and immediately think of a brand. At least that’s the idea. Read the rest of this entry
“REUNITED AND IT FEELS SO GOOD.”
On March 15th of this year, the many members of Team To End AIDS, gathered before dawn at Dodger Stadium to brave the “Stadium to the Sea” course for the annual running of the LA Marathon. It was a wonderful time as our squad triumphantly traipsed through the streets of LA, Hollywood, WeHo, Westwood and finally Santa Monica in near record heat (yup, it was a hot one).
However, once we crossed the finish line, gathered our race bling and gave each other some sweaty congratulatory hugs, many of us went our separate ways. Read the rest of this entry
PARTING IS SUCH SWEET SORROW…
Last year I wrote a love letter about my Garmin Forerunner 305 (aka “Becky”).
I waxed poetic about her wondrous qualities and charming idiosyncrasies. And how we were running soulmates destined to be together until dead battery do us part.
(It’s one of my favorite posts and you can read it here).
Well, sadly, Becky and I are finally going our separate ways.
Her battery hasn’t been holding its charge lately. She no longer syncs easily to Garmin Connect. And two weeks ago one of her straps broke during my long run.
In addition, I’m starting a bit of a running reboot and change is the order of the day.
It was time. Read the rest of this entry
TAKING A BREAK & SHAKING THINGS UP…
Last weekend was the OC Marathon/Half Marathon, a race that I’ve run the last two years and had planned to do again in 2015.
But I didn’t run it.
Instead, I slept in that morning and then read about and congratulated a bunch of my friends who completed the race (and did well). Why, you may ask, did I skip a race I wanted to do?
Simple, I’m a bit burned out.
Sometimes you gotta take a much needed breather.
And sometimes you gotta shake things the hell up.
Basically, that’s where I am right now in regards to racing and running. Read the rest of this entry
PUTTING THE “FRESH” TO THE TEST
Hi Everyone,
Remember about a week or so ago I told you all about the gourmet food service Freshly* and how I was going to offer myself up as a human “guinea pig” to test out their service… and in the process spare myself seven whole days of cooking?
We should all be so lucky to not have to cook, right?
Well, I’m happy to say “test concluded.” And here’s how it all went down.
For starters, I got to go to Freshly’s website and select my grub from their on-line menu. Clickety-click and it was done. BTW, you can check out their current menu listings here: FRESHLY MENU. Read the rest of this entry
“FADE TO BLACK…”
Hi Everyone,
For those of you who who regularly check out Tripping The Kenyans (thank you so much, by the way) you might have noticed that my posts have been a little fewer and farther between the last few weeks.
The thing is, I’ve been writing like crazy.
Just not for this blog.
Don’t worry, I’m not writing for another blog behind your back.
That’d be silly. If I was writing for another blog, I’d sure as hell be telling you to check that one out too (I’ll gladly take all of the publicity I can muster).
Nope, I’ve been finishing up a feature script.
In other words, my day job. Read the rest of this entry
KNOCK KNOCK, HERE’S FOOD!
I’m a lousy cook. Pure and simple.
Sure, I can drop some frozen waffles in the toaster or use the can opener and microwave to nuke some soup.
I’ve even been known to whip up a killer batch of ice cubes (when I’ve got the recipe).
Okay, maybe not that bad.
I am getting better. I’ve added the crockpot to the list of kitchen devices that I’ve managed to finally figure out. And I do know a handful of recipes that I can make without me ending curled up in the fetal position in the corner of the kitchen reaching for the phone to dial Dominos.
But let’s just say that as a whole my culinary creation skills are still lacking. Read the rest of this entry
THE WSJ PICKED MY BRAIN…
Hi Everyone,
Sorry for the recent lack of posts.
I have been uber-busy on the work front (post on that in the near future).
Also, a few changes in my running/workout plan (another pending post).
And a few other things are afoot too (yup, probably posts on those as well).
In the meantime, just a quick blurb today. A few weeks ago I got a call from Rachel Bachman, a reporter for the Wall Street Journal (great publication, but could still use a comics section), and she was working on a story about runners and bib transfers. She had read one of my posts on TTK and asked if she could pick my brain for her story.
We chatted on the phone for about 30 minutes and I gave her a few good factual tidbits, as well as a quote or two. In the end, I didn’t get quoted in the article, but that’s okay. As a producer/writer I know that at times even good things need to end up on the editing room floor (or “Kill your darlings” as author Stephen King puts it).
So, Rachel dropped me a note today, thanking me for my help (and wants to use me as a “running” resource in the future) and sent me a link to the article and accompanying video. Click below to check it out.
“Reading is fundamental”… and Run on!
SNAPSHOT: HOLLYWOOD HALF MARATHON ’15
Hi Trippers!
To quote the very well known saying, “A picture is worth a thousand words.”
Well, if that’s the case then this past weekend’s Hollywood Half Marathon spoke volumes.
As an excellent runner’s perk, the race directors arranged for all of the participants to get digital downloads of all of their race photos (from MarathonFoto) for free. Since that service typically costs $39.95 on MF, that is one heckuva race perk.
So, thanks again to the Hollywood Half Marathon for allowing me to download a heap of photos of my sweaty mug without the words “PROOF ONLY” blazoned over my face and torso.
Say cheese… and Run on!

JUGGLING, SORE NECKS AND GEEKING OUT…
Hi Trippers!
Sorry for my blogging “MIA” this week. Things have been a tad busy on the work front. But that is a good thing.
I’ve got a new entertainment project I’ll be producing that is about to get underway any day. Can you say “impending greenlight.” More news on that when I’m able to share any details.
In the meantime I’m trying to finish up the first draft of my latest script, which is only going to get harder once the other project kicks off. I see some midnight candle burning in my near future as I want to minimize any overlap.
And on top of that, I’m finally taking the big plunge (long overdue) and starting my own production company. And that feels like a job in its own right. Let’s just say that between paperwork, legal forms and business related minutiae the day can quickly get away from you. Of course there’s also fun stuff, like having a company design a logo for me and getting the website built (wait I’m building the website too… more work). Read the rest of this entry
BUZZING ABOUT HONEY STINGER…
Hey Trippers!
Recently I got another bit of running good news as I found out I that I was admitted to “The Hive.”
Now that doesn’t mean I’m changing collegiate allegiances from Wisconsin to Georgia Tech (GT refers to their fanbase as “The Hive”). I’ll always be a Badger.
Nor does it mean I’m going to show my super-villain darkside and wage battle against the Teen Titans (it’s a DC comic book reference… click here for more).
Rather it means I’ve been accepted as a member of the Honey Stinger Grassroots Sponsorship Program.
As many of you know, I’m an ambassador to a pair of race series (REVEL, Lexus LaceUp) as well as for running gear (PRO Compression).
Well, now I’m also spreading the word about Honey Stinger. Read the rest of this entry
JACKPOT…
Hi Trippers!
A quick tidbit today as I’ve got some good news.
I WON THE LOTTERY!
Yup, time to quit working forever and buy that tropical island where I can drink massive margaritas, lounge on the beach “au natural” and hunt humans for my general amusement. Woo hoo! Suck it civilization.
Oh, wait a second. I won “a” lottery. Not “the” lottery.
Um, forget what I said about hunting humans. Read the rest of this entry
