OFF AND RUNNING…

Here’s hoping everyone had a fun Labor Day weekend doing something non-laborious.

Listening to the maestro.

As for me, I had fun lazing about part of the weekend. Lindy, my buddy Jeff and I saw John Williams perform his movie music at the Hollywood Bowl (an annual tradition). Lindy and I also went to a friend’s house party on Monday.

I also watched some great football as my scrappy Wisconsin Badgers shocked LSU in a showdown at Lambeau Field and Florida State rebounded from an abysmal first half to beat Ole Miss. And with the NFL pre-season over it all gets real starting next week.

And this weekend was also the start of my fall race season.

What’s my number?

Just about five hours after John Williams played his third encore at the Bowl (it was the theme to E.T.) my alarm went off telling me to get my not-nearly-rested-enough butt out of bed.

A dose of caffeine (courtesy of a 7 Eleven Big Gulp) later and I was on the road heading down the 5 Freeway for the Lexus LaceUp Irvine 10K. This was going to be my initial gauge for the season to see if I was indeed in race shape.

It was a nice morning for a run and LaceUp does have a nice set-up before and after the race (can you say “free” post-race food trucks and beer).

The race went pretty well for me. Even though I went out a little bit fast I and dropped off a tad in the 2nd half, I still finished almost a minute faster than last year’s race. All in all a really fun time.

Here’s a few shots from the day:

Next up will be the REVEL Big Cottonwood Half Marathon in Salt Lake City on Saturday.

Have a great week… and Run on!

  1. Scott,
What’s your favorite Salt Lake city area race? I’m doing a half marathon in every state and haven’t done Utah yet.
    Thanks.
    Larry

    • Thanks for the note Larry. The only race I’ve ever done in Salt Lake City (or Utah for that matter) is Big Cottonwood. It’s a beautiful and fast course (I PR’d there) and I highly recommend it. I’m sure if you post something in the Half Fanatics page asking about Utah races you’d get some other responses. To date I’ve run the vast majority of my races in CA (can recommend a slew of those) and just a few other states, GA, IL, NV. I do have a few friends also doing the 50 races in 50 states plan and I could ask them about Utah. By the way, how many states are you up to?
